School Magazine Design - Perfect Bound A4 Magazine

DESIGNBRIEF: To develop a smart looking school magazine design to portray the academic year in a visually engaging way. Staying on brand and giving the magazine its own identity.

DESIGNSOLUTION:  After a half day visit to the school to get an overview of Witham and the school values Core worked to design some School magazine layouts for the cover and several spreads with options for style.

The School Magazine design

Existing brand colours and fonts were used but a masthead and headline font was added to give the Magazine its own identity, yet still retaining the familiar Witham style.

The magazine regularly reaches 108 pages and is perfect bound with a matt lamination to protect the print and give a tactile finish. The cover design changes slightly each year utilising different block colours. While the  archive of issues retains a uniform feel, the colour change helps to identify each issue.

Over the course of several issues the word count has been reduced for articles in a bid to use large focal images to give features impact and balance.

Design of annual Oakham Festival Brochure

DESIGNBRIEF: Liaise with committee members to collate event information and plan into a vibrant and informative A5 programme for the Oakham Festival.

For this annual project we were able to draw upon our background in the publishing world, working with page plans to allocate editorial and adverts which is often a moveable feast right up until press deadline to ensure advertisers are accommodated and satisfied.

The design of the brochure uses the ‘O’ logo as a device throughout which was initially designed for the Festival before Core Graphic Design acquired the job. A small pallette of fonts and colours help to theme the Festival brand throughout.

Fire and Ice Jewellery Brochure

DESIGNBRIEF: Showcase a new collection of jewellery to reach the intended audience in various forms launching in September and to last through the Christmas period and into early Spring.

DESIGNSOLUTION: Core Graphic Design was fortunate to have a large input into the look and feel of the marketing for the whole concept of Fire and Ice from this square brochure which embraces the extremes of nature and showcases the different fine gemstone jewellery in colours found in nature. Core Graphic Design were instrumental in presenting a seamless campaign from conceptual design through to brochure, shop cabinet displays, social media and presenting the collection on the Heidi Kjeldsen website which we also maintain and develop for the client on a monthly basis.

Wilds Lodge School Magazine

BRIEF: A bright and colourful portrayal of the many activities and the ethos of this local Therapeutic School.

DESIGNSOLUTION:  Through the pages of an annual A4 magazine which has grown to a 44 page publication packed with images of the boys from Wilds Lodge enjoying activities and engrossed in their learning. The design follows the school brand but employs the use of brightly coloured devices throughout to bring the page layout to life. The school has a strong ecological ethos reflected in the greens of their brand and also in the fairly organic page layout of this magazine.

DESIGNBRIEF: To produce a brochure befitting of the stature and services synonymous with the company and the St James’ Place brand.

DESIGNSOLUTION: An A4 printed brochure which utilised full page images that speak to the reader in tones that are masterful but empathetic partnered with editorial pages making good use of crisp white space, allowing for a wide gutter to the right of the centrefold. The St James Place brand identity and brand key were adhered to with typography clean and open coupled with minimal devices to add weight to key points, headings and sub headings.

DESIGNBRIEF: To come up with a way of making a regular offering of news an information more appealing than jus a sales email.

DESIGNSOLUTION: An interactive bi-monthly PDF magazine which lives on the website and can be served via email with excerpts linking to a flip book on an off menu page so that different subscribers are able to view in stages before finally serving to the entire social media audience. The PDF will also be printed so that some free magazines can be taken away from the shop itself.
